Invisalign®, Whitening, & Veneers Q & A
What is Invisalign®?
Invisalign® is a type of orthodontic treatment used to correct moderate issues of alignment and crowding of a person’s teeth. The system uses clear, plastic aligners to gradually move a person’s teeth over time. The aligners are nearly invisible when worn.
What Happens During Invisalign® Treatment?
Invisalign® treatment begins with taking an impression of a person’s teeth which is sent to a lab where the aligners will be made. They are designed to be changed every two weeks. They should also be worn for 20-22 hours a day and can be removed for eating and brushing teeth. The treatment takes about two years and when finished the person’s teeth will be straight.
What is Zoom Teeth Whitening?
Zoom teeth whitening is a cosmetic dental procedure which uses a light-activated hydrogen peroxide gel to remove surface stains on teeth. The gel is applied to the tooth surfaces and the lips are held back to ensure that the light can reach each area of the tooth evenly. The light-activated formula also helps the gel to whiten deeper than many over-the-counter products and provide immediate results.
What are Veneers?
Dental veneers are very thin tooth-colored shells which are applied to the tooth surface to cover small imperfections and improve the overall appearance of the tooth. The veneers are commonly used to hide pits, chips, crack, stains, and uneven edges of teeth. They have also been used to address gaps, improve the proportions of teeth which appear small, and help teeth to look more straight.
How are Dental Veneers Applied?
The veneer application typically requires two trips to the dentist. First, to ensure that the veneer fits the way it should a small amount of tooth surface is removed. Then an impression of the affected tooth will be taken and sent to a laboratory for fabrication. A temporary veneer is often used to protect the tooth in between visits. At the final visit the permanent veneer is secured to the tooth using a very strong dental adhesive.
